old fashioned smoothie
using an apple from my childhood
 -that would be delicious-
by name and taste

At the grocery store the other day, I noticed a bin full of delicious apples. They were so red and pretty that I brought some home. It had been a long time since I had even payed attention to delicious apples. When I was growing up that is the only type of apple I knew.  Well my mother did buy some green one for pies. I don't remember what they were called, but it wasn't grammy smith. So I bought some delicious apples to use in my smoothies. Because they are from my youth, I named my new drink "old fashioned smoothie".

I kept the smoothie simple. It seems that life was slower back then. The only thing we did then that should be changed (with a time machine, of course) was to not drink smoothies. Well, not at my house. In the late fifties we were still dialing on the land line phone or playing the busy signal. hmmm

This is a green smoothie. It has one large kale leaf in it. It is so good. It was sweet. There was no need to add maple syrup.

Recipe for old fashioned smoothie
good for helping to lower cholesterol
and triglycerides

Ingredients:

  • 1 red delicious apple - washed, quartered, seeds removed, peeling left on
  • 1 cup purple grapes - washed
  • 1 banana - peeled
  • 1 large kale leaf torn to fit into blender (with large stem removed)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 T chia seeds
  • 1 T freshly ground flax seeds
  • crushed ice as desired

I used my blendtec for this. Simply put all the ingredients into the blender container and blend to the consistency you like.

Add a straw. By now someone has eaten the grapes, but not to worry, the smoothie is delicious.
